MAKING OF A SCHOOL GARDEN

Research has shown that working in a school garden can increase students’ knowledge of eating healthy and fresh produce; social skills are improved ; cultivating teamwork, empathy while developing a sense of community and responsibility as well as students learn to be patient and focus.

In 2019, a chemical free school garden model has been developed at Ecole du Centre as a food laboratory whereby experiential learning take place through embedded hands on activities, observation and discovery, problem-based studies, guided inquiry, simulations, earthwork experiments, workshops with teachers, students and the school community with meaningful engagement of youth on their own health; health of their family and communities; health of the planet.

The making of a school garden brings awareness on the impact of pesticides and other chemicals in our environment without compromising the needs of the future generations.
